NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, at or soon after 6:00 p.m. in the Peru City Hall, the City of Peru will hold a public hearing concerning an application to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This grant is available to local governments for community/economic development activities.

The City of Peru is requesting $53,000 for a Public Planning Grant to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which will guide development throughout the City of Peru. The need for this project was identified through the City’s ongoing community improvement efforts: the City’s current Comprehensive Plan dates to 2001 and no longer reflects present conditions or growth needs. The City Council has determined that updating the Comprehensive Plan is necessary to guide the future well-being of the community. This grant will be used to redevelop a comprehensive plan, a key policy document used to guide the goals, expectations, and vision for the development of the community. The comprehensive plan helps align stakeholders, establishes goals and objectives for the city's growth, and provides the foundation for regulatory tools like zoning, subdivision, and annexation regulations. Additional planning goals include development of a Workforce Housing Plan, and a Substandard and Blight Study. CDBG funded activities will include: $50,000 for Public Planning and $3,000 for General Administration. The CDBG funds will be matched with $10,000 (a 20% match) from the City’s general fund, for a project total of $63,000. The project activities include:

●        Project Activity 20A — Public Planning (Comprehensive Plan) — $50,000 CDBG + $10,000 Match

●        Project Activity 21A — General Administration – $3,000 CDBG

All funds will be utilized for the National Objective of LMI to benefit low- and moderate-income people. There will be no persons displaced as a result of CDBG activities.

All interested parties are invited to attend this public hearing at which time you will have an opportunity to be heard regarding the grant application.  Written and oral testimony will also be accepted at the public hearing scheduled for 6:00 PM, Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, in the Peru City Hall at 614 5th Street, Peru, NE 68421.  Written comments addressed to City Clerk Dennis Kirkpatrick at the same address will be accepted if received on or before Tuesday, August 18th, 2026.

Individuals requiring physical or sensory accommodations including interpreter service, Braille, large print, or recorded materials, please contact City Clerk Dennis Kirkpatrick at cityclerkcityofperu@gmail.com no later than Friday, August 14th, 2026.
